Oh! Sh*t!

I (almost) forgot that this Friday is our 4th Anniversary, and I didn't have any plan for that day. Hmm...but I still have time to think and prepare. Let's make it (very) simple this year!

Dinner.. for sure! but where? which restaurant? what kind of food? arghhhh.....

I have no idea right now and I don't want to do any surprise this year...

I'm taking tomorrow off... will see if I can do anything about our anniversary.

As it is Friday the 13th.. maybe we should go for a horror movie date! hehehehe....

Oh... this sounds fun!

I'm now having fun thinking and planning about our anniversary..on this special day!

I will tell you what we do on our Friday the13th, anniversary... muahahahaha...

I just realized that my mission to find out what feeds my soul was really helpful. Not only that I found what lifts my spirit, it also makes me so happy. I woke up with the feeling that I'm fresh and ready to enjoy my day. I feel lighter... I think I can run a marathon! *I know..I know... it's just only a thought*

I smiled to everything... myself in the mirror, my lovely daughter, motorcycle taxi, teachers at the nursery, pedestrians, shopkeepers, passengers on the sky train, security guards, people who shared the lift and my colleagues. I am smiling now typing this... smile to my computer screen like a lunatic.

Well... I didn't forget to smile to my beloved husband but he left home while I was still not fully awake this morning. So I will send a smile to him via SMS and hope it will make him smile too.

The world looks so bright and shiny when I'm happy. I have a song for all of you...

What feeds my spirit

It's been more than two years since my last post on Blogger.com. I think the reason I was absent here is because the influence of new social media like Facebook and Twitter. I have spent more time using those pages and forgot all about the blogging.

But now since I am on a very important mission -- Finding what feeds my spirit, and one of the way to find that out is to go back and read my old blogs. I expected to find something I really liked to do that made my soul at peace. You know what I have found?

Yes! I found many things that cheer up my spirit. Traveling, Good food, Photography, Drawing - arts and Blogging about all of those I like!

Here I'm blogging again. I don't expect many people to read my blog as same as I never expect people to follow my Twitter. Why? You may wonder why I blog if I don't expect people to read it. Well, it's just like my diary, the old style diary which is supposed to be secret. The diary that I write to myself, so that I can come back and read it again and to bring back some memories. Just to get me back to my nostalgia... that's all.

But I don't mind people reading my blog either, especially the people who read and share their thoughts with what I've written. I always appreciate their opinions.

There are many things happened in the past two years and I cannot remember all of them! *That's why I should blog about them, so I wouldn't forget!* Things have changed and I have changed. I am now a mother of a 19 months old girl who will be 20 months old on Sunday. I didn't think I can be a mother... I don't like kids! But to be honest, I love being a mother. I love my daughter so much. I can tell you that most of my blogs will be talking about her.

The day after I knew I'm pregnant, it's time to see a doctor.

Getting up late... had brunch, getting ready to go...

Vibhavadi hospital is our destination as it's one of the nearest hospitals from our house. I paid 60 baht for the taxi fare to get to the hospital...

Easy and fast service from the hospital staff... weight checked *secret*, blood pressure checked *normal*

About 5 minutes waiting then it's our turn to see the doctor.

Doctor: What is the reason you're here?
Jane: I'm pregnant. I think I'm pregnant as the magic stick said so...
Doctor: Ok. When was your last period?
Jane: That's the problem.... I don't remember exactly when! I guess in August?
Doctor: It's ok. We will find that out later but if that's when you had your last period then your due date should be......................................... May 18, 2010.
Jane: Oh...ok. Do I need any check up?
Doctor: Nah... save your 300 baht. The magic stick showed 2 lines, right? Then you're pregnant.
Doctor: Now, eat more carrots and broccoli. Don't take motorcycle or Tuk tuk and don't carry heavy stuff.. no more carrying 5 kilos of orange on both sides.... not for these first 3 months.
Jane: Can I ride a motorbike?
Doctor: NO! Can't be rider or passenger!
Jane: Ok.....
Doctor: Can you NOT have sex during these first 3 months?
Jane: *Think* Do we have other choice?
Jane: Nodded her head...
Doctor: Ok. Done! I will see you again next month.

Got some vitamins and calcium supplement and left the hospital....

Next destination, we went to a book store to get the pregancy bible.... 5% discount from Asia book!

That's it for the day... Advice of the day: During the first trimester, NO SEX!!!

It's one of the greatest days of my life...

I got the greatest news from the magic stick, it showed 2 purple lines that means I'm pregnant!

Running back to my bedroom, informing this great news to the father-to-be, and then jumping up and down with joy together for a few seconds...

Who should we inform next? Should we not inform anyone? Should I go see doctor today? Should I wait for another test to confirm? Many questions were popping up in my head.....

Well... It's too early. Let me go back to bed and will figure what to do next later...

The father-to-be couldn't hold it any longer. He called his mother to inform her about our great news. Got a recommendation for pregnancy bible: What to expect when you're expecting. We decided to tell her not to tell anyone else until we're ready to tell. Shhhhhh...for now, ok?

Then it's time to tell my mother.... same condition. No telling anybody else until we're ready to shout out the news.

Keeping a secret is hard... keeping this secret is even harder!

We decided to go see the doctor next morning...

I went to sleep with a new feeling... there is something special inside my tummy!

The Fugals' frugal date

Today I'm going to tell you about the date we had this evening and how special it was.

Starting around 4 pm. when I had to go in town for my work, Jeremy tagged along with me. While I was doing my business, he was hanging around at emporium department store. (you can hear his story from his blog)

I finished my work around 6 pm., we met and went to see the DVD portable player that I promised I will buy one for Jeremy after receiving my big pay check for his assistance. He already has the model/brand in mind.... I hope it's not too expensive!!!

Then we felt hungry but we didn't want to have some fancy food here at the restaurants here. We ended up eating at food court for a total of 195 baht for both of us.

After light dinner, we went to supermarket, wandering around, getting what we needed.... we got all what we wanted but yet we didn't leave the place. The reason is.... after 7.30 pm. or around that time, the supermarket will reduce the price of their fresh products like sashimi, cooked food... That's what we were waiting for!

But it was only 7 pm. and my legs were tired.... we decided to go to the cinema. After rock, paper, scissors and Jeremy won... we bought two tickets for "Yes Man" at 8.00 pm. We still have about 45 minutes before the movie start.

Sitting and waiting in front of the popcorn counter... Jeremy was craving for a beer, we went down to supermarket again and we found out that they already have the food discounted!!!

Hooray!!! I grabbed the last box of salmon sashimi (from 185 baht to 130 baht) and Jeremy got his Leo beer. We're ready to go! With my membership card we also got 6 baht discount from our bill. (I loved it!)

Back at the seat in front of the popcorn counter.... we started out frugal supper. While Jeremy is preparing the wasabi and soy sauce, I went to the restroom, took some napkins and we were ready!

A fancy Salmon sashimi... on a bench in front of the cinema...just the two of us. This was my first experience doing that. The movie was good. It was funny, even though I think it's a bit too much like other Jim Carrey's movies but hey! I lost the rock, paper, scissors remember?

At the end, I was thinking it was a really nice and special date, and definitely a frugal one! We should do it more often!

Tear gassing experience!

Today I have a brand new experience in my life.... I've been shot by tear gas!

As I was covering the protest in front of the parliament this afternoon. I was so unlucky as I was trapped inside the protesters' side when the police started firing tear gas on protesters! I was right there where the police fired more than 30 tear gas canisters on people..... It was the longest 5 minutes in my life..... so torturing.... I couldn't breath... I couldn't see well.... I heard the bombs and they were so close that my ears had temporary ringing noise.

After that I found myself on a small street running away from the crazy scene, hopped on a motorcycle taxi and told the driver "Get out of here ASAP!"

We went to a little further street where there was no effect from tear gas when I called my boss to see where he was. He told me to come back to the scene but this time behind the police lines.... It's safer he said.

I went back there.... found my boss..... and we started working again.... The police kept firing tear gas toward protesters.... until now.

It was really safer on the police side but I still got some tear gas in my eyes and nose and throat... sometimes but hey! I've survived!!!

And that's the most importance right?

I really need a good sleep tonight.... good night everyone!

New camera, more photos!

I'm so stoked! I just bought myself a new digital camera! It's FUJIFILM Finepix S100FS!!! As you can see in the photo.

I have camera now. That means I will take more photos. More photos means more blogs about my photos.... More blogs means my blog is no longer boring... Everybody is happy!! (I hope)

The only problem is.......

I'm so broke now...... but I'm happy. I wish happiness can feed my stomach.....

Bookworm mode

As a little sister who is 5 years younger than my brother and 8 years younger than my sister, I grew up playing with my imaginative friends or hanging out alone but that's not my problem because I enjoyed it very much.

I have a strange ability to create my own world, so called "Jane's world" where I can spend my time there with myself. When I was in "Jane's world", I wouldn't hear anyone, anything except what I was looking or listening in my own world.

Many of my coworkers experienced me in this mode while I was at work. There was one time I remember that My coworker, Ann talked to me or tried to talk to me about our assignment. She didn't know I was in "Jane's world" at that time (you must know that when I was in my own world, I looked like normal, like I was doing a normal job, but I wasn't actually doing it!!!). She talked to me, told me her ideas, asked me questions but no response. She started waving her hand in front of my face but still no response. It's then she realized I wasn't there....

That happened to me a lot. I can shut the world outside from me. I won't hear anything or see anything except what I want to hear or see. I used to do the psychology test for personal character. My result came as "Normal schizophrenic", how it is normal I'm not sure but I know I am not "schizophrenic".

Maybe that the reason why I love spending time with myself, all alone. I can spend 3 days in my room and not going out once, if I have enough food and books to read. I did actually.

I grew up as a bookworm, I started with Japanese manga, my brother's manga. "Touch" by Mitsuru Adachi is my first book. If I didn't go out with my friends, I stayed home and read books. I liked reading detective stories, murder stories, short stories and also fantasy children books too. When I was 8 years old, Miss Jane Marple was my idol. Some of you may know that my favourite author is Roald Dahl, my all time favourite writer.

I haven't read any book lately.... I've been lazy. It seems like I've been lazy doing everything I used to love. Well...I think everybody has had this moment in their life.... depends on how often!!!!

The good news is..... I'm not lazy doing the things I love anymore!!!! I play my games again... I take photos again (next blog will have some photos from my latest trip) and I read books again...

The book I'm reading is "Never Suck A Dead Man's Hand: Curious Adventures of a CSI" by Dana Kollmann. I love CSI, I'm not going to deny it. I"m addicted to some shows on TV: CSI, CSI NY, House.... I just love the detective show, forensic is even better! This book is perfect for "Jane's world".

No camera, no blog

I know I have been absent for awhile. It's because I have been busy... working and trying to make more and more and more money!!!

Why is it so hard to make money????

And that is the reason I didn't blog much lately... (not that I am so lazy.... please don't think anything like that!), another reason is that... I don't have any new photo to share!

My boss gave my memory card to a friend in Burma, he thought it was his..... and I didn't have time to buy a new one yet. So I have the camera but there is no memory card inside.... can't take photo... it becomes a useless camera!

I also have a body of Canon EOS D30. My boss let me use it as he has got a new camera! But... but I don't have the lens yet, same reason..... no time to go shopping for memory card or lens.

No money too!

Yesterday I had a date with my husband. We went to see a movie "Juno" at a cinema near our place in the afternoon. It was shown on the platinum screen (which costs 50 baht more!!!).

After having lunch at home (to save money), we went to the cinema about 30 minutes before the show time. Queuing for less than 5 minutes to get our tickets (and 2 small bars of chocolate as giveaway gift from cinema). As we had some time left before the show time, so we walked around the mall to kill the time. First we thought we gonna play some games at the arcade, we're about to play air hockey but we didn't have coins for it (next time we will!!). We ended up killing time in a bookstore (as usual) but we didn't get anything there.

It's about 5 minutes to the show times, we went to the theatre and it's too early, we had to wait. Five minutes passed, the staff said to us that the previous round was not ending yet. Another 5 minutes passes, one man walked out of the theatre. We waited.... and waited (not for long) and finally the same staff came and said we can go in now. Hooray!

The theatre was good, leather chairs, no fungus smell and the A/C was at good temperature. We were the first group to walk into the theatre. We got the seats on the back far from the screen but when they started playing teasers and commercials, we heard the noise from the film room. We decided to move closer to the screen as there was nobody else except us there. Watching more trailers, teasers and more commercial for about 20 minutes!!! Finally, the movie started....

It was a good movie, I really liked it! Cool! (I wish I could curse like Juno but it's obviously I can't...never mind)
This is one of the best dates I ever had! Having the whole theatre for just two of us, watching a good movie, laughing out loud, spending time with your loved one. It was a good Monday afternoon.

I love having a date on Monday afternoon!

Right! I'm turning 30 tomorrow....

To be honest, I'm not so thrilled with my birthday this year. Why? Because I have to say good bye to my twenties... I will no longer be a 20 something girl! *sniff sniff*

Buddha said we can't stop birth, age, sickness and death... learn to live with it!

Turning 30 is not bad then! I've never been 30 before! It must be so cool!

What do we know about 30?

April has 30 days...
30 is the country code of International phone call for Greece!! (I always want to go to this country, it's my dream country. Who knows maybe I can visit Greece when I'm 30!)
30 is the atomic number of Zinc... what else?
I'm not really in Chemistry or any science, so that's it! but I know one thing! there are many people I know turning 30 this year... hehehe.. most of my school mates are!!!

Honeymoon trip - Chiangdao

The next morning, we got up early getting ready to go to Chiang dao. We took a local bus about 1 hour and a half to get there for 40 baht each. It was raining all the way from Chiangmai to Chiangdao and still raining when we got to our resort. We didn't do anything in that afternoon because of the rain but we did enjoy relaxing at the resort -- Malee's nature lovers bungalows

It was about 4 pm when the rain seemed to stop. We decided to go exploring the nearest cave temple.

We were lucky that it was no rain when we went up there. The view up there was stunning, breathe taking view but hey! I'd love to breath more as the air was so clear unlike Bangkok's!!! It was worth taking long and deep breathe there.... Ahhhhh.....

Honeymoon trip - Part II

After visiting the famous and 'must see' temple, we went back to our hotel and waited for my friend (my ex-roommate from the university), Money, to join us.

But after waiting for awhile, she hadn't shown up yet and we were hungry (again). We asked the hotel staff where to get cheap, local food nearby. He said the walkable area where we can find restaurants is on Nimmarnhemin road, so we headed there.

We tried to look for recommended restaurants in our guidebook but we couldn't find any, so we decided to walk into a restaurant where I saw many Thai folks hanging out there. (That should be a good sign, right?)

Here are our first dinner in Chiang mai:

Money arrived when we were having dinner, so she joined us and she was so kind to treat us that meal. Thank you Money! Kiss kiss!

We were lucky to arrive there on Sunday as in Chiang mai, there is a special Sunday night market on the historical street. After dinner, Money was our guide to show us around the market.

It's great for shopping and sight seeing at the same time!

As Money had to drive about 1 hour back to her home in Lampun, so we had to split early that night. Jeremy and I had to get ready for tomorrow trip to Chiang dao too, so we went to bed early. The first day on our honeymoon was great!!! Good way to start!

Honeymoon trip - Day #1

Ahhh... Finally I have time to sit down and get all the photos out of the camera. Now it's time to talk about this honeymoon trip.

Jeremy and I decided to go to Chiang mai as Jeremy never been to the north before. We went there by sleeping train (because it's cheaper and we can sleep too!)

We arrived Chiang mai at 7.30AM (On time!!!! My friend who lives in the north now said she never never experienced on time train!), we took a red mini truck to our hotel "Suan doi house"

We thought we could sleep on the train but the train was too bumpy and too cold, so we didn't sleep well. The hotel allowed us to check-in early, and we crashed when we reached the bed.

Waking up from the nap, feeling hungry! Lonely Planet guidebook said the hotel we stay has a wonderful Vietnamese restaurant "Le Gong kum", we decided to try! And they're right!!! The food there was so good.... mmmm.... yummy!

After our first wonderful meal in Chiang mai, we headed to the famous temple on Doi Suthep. This temple is the 'must see' temple in Chiang mai, they believe that if you come to Chiang mai but didn't come to this temple, it's like you haven't come to Chiang mai yet!!!

So.... we did visit Chiang mai finally!

What we learned today on the first day in Chiang mai is taxi drivers in Chiang mai are cheaters! I didn't say all of them are but when they have chance to rip tourists off, they do! I was really disappointed even I've got the warning from my friend earlier but still... I expected that Northern people or Chiang mai people will be friendly and kind but the people I met on the first day are not. They cheated on the Thai people, so FOREIGNERS! BE CAREFUL EVEN MORE!!!

Ni hao everyone!!!
I'm now in Kunming, Yunnan... China!!! I just arrived this afternoon... I will start my sightseeing tour tomorrow.

I'm here with my mom and Jeremy... It's our first time ever to China, it's so exciting! It's cool too!!! (The city and the weather is really cool!)

We just had traditional Yunnanian noodles... it's called "Over the bridge" noodles. I will show you the pictures when I am back home.

Next month will be my busy month traveling for me! I have plans to go to China for 4 days and then go to Singapore for 3 days... and then I will be back home really broke!

I'm still planning for my Singapore trip, anyone has suggestion for me? Which hotel should I stay (budget less than 100 $US)? Which area should I stay? Which food or restaurant should I try? -- I'm sure PY would be the best source for this!!!

What happened to me in the past week

There many things happened to me in the past week, I can't believe it! I will start with rough detail on my trip on Thursday 16th.

My boss and I made a road trip to the north of Thailand to Phitsanulok to cover a story there, we stayed there for 3 nights and then we went to Loei, visiting a vineyard and then drove to Udonthani, slept there 1 night before heading to Nongkhai, Thai-Laos border. We left the car in Thailand and crossed to Laos, took the plane to Xiengkhoung for another story. 2 nights in Xiengkhoung, we flew back to Vientiane and crossed back to Thailand. My boss drove to Khonkaen that night and we stayed in Khonkaen 1 night before heading back to Bangkok on Thursday 23rd. We arrived Bangkok around noon... It's 1,600 km we drove during this trip.

My mom got 3 new kittens as they were dumped in front of our house. There were 5 of them actually, 1 mother and 4 little kitties but the mother brought one kitty with her to another house and never come back for the rest. So my mom took them inside as the dogs on the street attacking them. One kitty got her leg broken because the dogs attacking her. Our veterinarian said she will be ok and will be able to walk within 1 month. We haven't named them yet... I will show you photos of them next time I go home.

I passed out...fainted... on the cross over bridge in the middle of Bangkok after I donated my blood. I didn't know what happened with me but luckily I was with my 2 friends, Ying and Auey. They told me I fainted and fell on the floor. I remember I was about to black out, I saw my friends walking in front of me but I had no voice to call them, I grabbed the bridge bars... that's the last thing I know. My friends told me they turned to me to see why I wasn't walking with them and they saw me about to fall... They were able to catch me before I hit the floor, but they couldn't lift me up as my body was harden. There was a guy walking by, he helped lifting me up to the shade where another woman gave me smelling salt to wake me up. My friends told me I fainted twice... well... I didn't know anything. I guess I should stop donating my blood for awhile until I'm stronger or healthier.

Now it's almost noon time and I'm hungry. I should go...

hey everyone!

Sorry for being absent for awhile. I'm now on the road trip for work! We drove from Bangkok on Thursday afternoon to Phitsanulok, stayed there 3 nights and today we drove from Phitsanulok to Loei to visit the biggest vineyard in Thailand.

Now I'm in Udonthani... will sleep here for one night before heading to laos tomorrow.

I miss my baby so much.... it's hard being away from him, especially when he is sick.

My poor baby... I'm so sorry I couldn't be with you on your birthday and I can't take care of you when you really need me.

The other day (I don't remember what day!), I went to Thonglor Sky train station and I saw this man at the corner of the street. He was selling fishes and turtles and some water plants.

Isn't that cool?

Here in Thailand, you can buy your pet at any street corner!

As you're on the way to the pub, walking on the street, thinking 'Let's have some beers tonight' and then! Oh! Turtle! How lovely! Let me get one turtle before going for some beers!

Sagano ramen

Last week Lin and I went to a ramen place here in Soi Thonglor because I told her many days ago that I really wanted to have ramen!!! and I just tried a new ramen shop near my house, they just open 1 day before! I wasn't impressed with that ramen shop at all and I kept thinking I need very good ramen... ramen... please...I need ramen! *I think it's a part of PMS*

So Lin suggested me this restaurant in Soi Thonglor 13 where there are many Japanese restaurants in this street, it's called "nihonmura" or Japanese village. I will try other restaurants and will tell you about them later!

Today as I told you earlier, we came with one thing in mind... "Ramen", I did some research about good ramen shops in Bangkok and there are 2 famous one which are Ramentei and Yamagoya ramen. Yamagoya is actually located in nihonmura too (to be more specific, it is right next to the shop I had my ramen!!) and I wanted to try but Lin told me to try "Sagano" because they serve more choices of ramen soup.

Walked into shop, the waitress came to us and said the tables were full, and we had to wait for while. Ok... no problem, and we waited.

I didn't know how long we had waited as I was busy talking with Lin and also deleting contacts from my sim card at the same time... we got a big table!

I had a hard time making decision on the soup... there are 4 choices... I wanted to try the white soup but it will come with special portion and a little more expensive, so I decided to have miso chashu ramen.... hmmm.... a little bit too salty for me but what I care most is the ramen...the noodle! and their noodle was good!

We ordered some more things... Lin didn't have breakfast, so she was a little hungry. She ordered salad and gyoza for share and a cold ramen for herself. Look like dessert to me!!! I don't know what it's called... but I don't need to know cuz I am royalty to hot ramen with nice soup, well I can say for me... chashu ramen only!!!

Finished the ramen... I was happy... Having good food really makes me think how lucky I am to be in this world... or how lucky I am to be in Thailand... there are so many good food here... and not too expensive. I love being in Thailand... love it!

So... what should I have for breakfast tomorrow?!?

Sleeping <--- Yeah... so what? I'm bored...and I don't want to do anything! So I sleep! My favourite thing to do when I'm bored...

Watching TV <--- Sometimes it makes me bored even more as there is nothing interesting on TV

Reading <--- Anything that I can read..book, newspaper, menu, dictionary, advertising billboard, food tag, brochure...anything

Playing game <--- I have a Game boy advance, game boy micro and PC games... That's what I'm going to tell you today! My favourite games!

I will tell only PC games as I have 296 IN 1 for my Game boy... but I only play a few of them! I'm an old fashioned, still play Tetris, Super Mario, Dr. Mario, Ninja Kage, Ice climber, Battle City, Bomber man and B-Wings.

My favourite PC games...

My first game on PC that kept me up all night... I still remember that time.... I was using my brother's PC as we shared a studio room in an apartment. I was a freshman in university. That time I was playing from a diskette..boot from drive A:, it was a yellow diskette! I loved it!

SimFarm -- Love it! I still have it here on my PC! I play it sometimes when I'm really bored!

Around the same time that I'd got SimFarm, I got another game which is similar to SimFarm... well... you probably know what kind of games I like! as it's the same concept!!! This one I was really addicted to! I played it all day and all night! And yes.. I just installed it on my PC!!! and I can't stop playing it!!!

Transport Tycoon -- I always choose the color scheme 'light blue' and build my HQ in the biggest city!

This game I know through my roommate, Ying. We shared the room when we were in senior year in university. She brought her PC in and we all shared that PC for school work and also entertainment. That's how she introduced me to her favourite game which became mine as well.

Starcraft -- I liked playing as Zerg, it's an alien empire... I don't like playing as a human. It's not so fun! Being an alien that destroys human is a lot more fun! Don't you think so?

When I worked for MTV Thailand, I worked from 10 am. to 7 pm. but I always did a carpool with my colleagues and we normally went back home around 9-10 p.m. when the live programs are over. What did I do while waiting? Playing games! There were 2 favourite games that I played at MTV, sometimes my boss came to see why I looked so serious staring at the monitor which I didn't do when I was working.

1. Heroes of Might and Magic III -- I only had HOMM 3 at that time... I wished I could play multiplayer mode but with a pirate one, I couldn't.

2. Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom -- Another friend also named Ying introduced me to this game, she is the queen of this kind of strategy game. I know Pharaoh, Caesar and this game from her. I used to stay overnight in her apartment and played the game on her PC all night until sunrise! That's how addicted I was to this game.

The last game for today is the most recent favourite game of mine, I am not good enough in this game yet but I will improve my skills... I will...I promise! I got this one on DVD, the quality is very good. I upgraded my video card for my PC because I wanted to play 3D games... and this game is the reason I did that!

City Life -- More options than SimCity, nicer graphic but I'm still learning how to make my city growing and running my city smoothly and wealthy.

Oh........ I'm bored now! Really bored! That means it's time to do something! Playing a game!!!!! I gotta go now.... I have to harvest my strawberries and sell off my fat cows!!!

My Cbox has been blocked...

Sorry guys...if you left any messages on my cbox on the side, and wondering why I didn't reply you or say anything back to you. Please know that it's because cbox website has been blocked here in Thailand by ICT ministry since last Thursday. I don't know the reason why they shut down this website... I actually interviewed the ICT minister on that day in the afternoon about the new cyber crime law bill and the situation of YouTube website, he even told me he and his team have shut down 15 websites more on Saturday...
When I checked my blog in the morning, it was fine... but since I got home and checked my blog again...it's already been blocked!!!

Hmmm..I should have known this! So I could ask the minister why you shut down my cbox!!!! This is not fair!!!!

By the way...if you're in Thailand, you will see this page when you go to YouTube.com or Cbox.ws and other 18 websites (the minister told me he's been blocking 20 websites so far)

Polluted Maptaphut

As some of you may remember that I used to work for Greenpeace SE Asia for about 2 months. During the time I was working there, I had a chance to visit a place called "Map Ta Phut", an industrial estate in Rayong province.

"In 2003 Greenpeace took samples of wastewater from Vinythai and Thai Plastic & Chemicals at their point of discharge to the canal in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate as well as sediment from the canal. The results show contamination of a range of highly toxic and carcinogenic substances."

I have some photos to show you.... I took these photos when I was there to do research on how many people effected from the pollution.

And not only human...who is suffering from the pollution, this little dog too!

Thank God it's Friday!

I have nothing to do... I finished cleaning the room, I had lunch, I washed dishes, I played my Gameboy... and I'm bored!

Then I just had an idea! I should blog! but what should I blog about? FOOD!!! That's the only thing I can think about when I'm bored.....

Now I will present my 5 favourite raw foods! Why raw? I don't know but it's good when it's raw! *The list is not rated, I can't judge which one is better than the others!*

Hello from new room!!

Finally... I have internet connection from my new room in Soi Thonglor!!! Phew....
Thought I couldn't use internet.. that'd be my worst nightmare!!

Anyway, I'm here now at my new room and back to the cyber world. Oh... for the pictures of my new room, you will have to wait for awhile. I promise you will see soon!! and you will see the same view from my balcony too! Our room is on 6th floor... and it's in the nest of the city center. Peaceful but very close to everywhere!

Oh! I have a good news to tell you! I've been accepted to be new student of MIR10 , I will study master's degree!

Hmmm... Time to go back to school!

Jane on the move!

Tomorrow Jeremy and I are going to move to our new apartment in Soi Thonglor as Jeremy got a new job there and will start working this Wednesday.

The apartment has gym and also swimming pool too! The room provides microwave, TV, refrigerator, queen sized bed, big closet, dining table + 2 chairs, telephone and low speed internet!!!

Well... as I'm planning to move tomorrow, I have to say that I'm not ready yet!

Packing ... not done
Car arranging ... not done

... What am I doing here??? I should get my ass up and start packing! What about Jeremy? He is still sleeping!!! *he said he was feeling sick, he needs to rest*
So it has to be ME!

Ok! I decided to tell you my 5 favourite places at this moment only! Bangkok is huge! And there are so many good places to dine at, depends on where I am in Bangkok! But I consider these top 5...if I'm at home where I wanna go eat!

Well... we will start with number#5 -- au bon pain
I know it doesn't sound so Thai to you... and they don't serve Thai food either! What can I say? Sometimes I crave for some western tastes too! Like salad, sandwiches... stuff like that! And I'm a big fan of au bon pain, especially their smoked salmon wasabi sandwich! Oh.....yum

number#4 -- MK Suki restaurant

Thai suki restaurant.. Like hotpot but what I like most about MK is their roasted duck! It's so good! Oi...drooling just think of it! Oh not only hotpot, suki and roasted duck, they have very good dim sum too!

number#3 -- Rooster restaurant (ไก่โต้ง)
It's not far from my house...actually it's walkable distance. They serve Thai-Isaan food.. like those somtum I showed you before. They make really good food and not expensive too! I always recommend this restaurant to my friends and also brought them there myself. I welcomed Jeremy on his first day in Thailand at this restaurant too! You can order anything on their menu! Guaranteed!

number#2 -- Kuroda
A Japanese buffet restaurant for 399 baht... and all you can eat! You can order form menu and they will just cook for you. That's why I like this restaurant... fresh and newly cooked! And I'm sure you've heard of it from my blog before!!!

and number#1 -- My home!
No kidding! There is no place like home! and my mom is one of the great cooks! You don't believe me? Well... come here and I will invite you to our dinner feast and you will love my mom and of course her food too!
*To confess, I can't think of any place better than my house! I can eat here everyday and every meal... and when I taste good food in a restaurant, I always say "This is just like mama's cooking! delicious!"

Hello!!!
I'm here in the South of Thailand... in a hotel in Pattani, I will spend a night here. I flew to Hat yai this morning and drove to Yala province... into the troubled area where there is curfew at night!

I just wanna let you know that I'm fine and safe here... We planned to go back to Bangkok this evening but as we had an unlucky day today that made us behid the schedule, so we couldn't drive back to airport as it's too late and too dangerous to be on the road after 5 pm., and that's the reason why I'm staying here in the hotel.

I haven't reserved the plane ticket yet! I should! Ok! Gotta go!

Ladies Rule!!!

Last night I went to a "Exclusively for ladies only" bar with friends... It was my first time going to a place like that, it's so interesting... I didn't know it was next to one of my favourite Thai restaurants! Now I know... maybe I should go more often!

I've heard that on Friday night there is a place which is also exclusively for ladies near my house, maybe that's the reason why the pub I went last night was a bit empty. I had only one rum&coke... (do not dare to order other cocktails as my friend got too sour margarita!)

Asking myself as I'm not a lesbian, going to a lesbian bar is quite interesting. I felt safe there though...and to find the restroom was so easy, no chance to walk into a men's room! (by mistake or intention).

When we left the place around 9 pm., I saw many ladies in the pub... maybe next time I should go a little late... I want to see the pub that's full of ladies only! And wanna see how they have fun in this kind of place!

Today I got a dozen of roses..pink roses from Jeremy. It's a delayed Valentine's gift as I was not in Bangkok that day... (It's too expensive to get the rose on Valentine's too!)

I put those roses in our drinking glass... no vase in this house! Thank you Jeremy... The roses actually make this room nicer!

Lunch @ Huahin

On day 2, we drove to Huahin to find another beach to go... we actually did the beach hopping last week! After we got the place to stay, we started looking for food! We found one restaurant not far from our hotel, so we decided to try.... and these are our food!!! Mmmm.... yummy!

Well.... today's post is only about food, so I'm not going to tell you about the beach or anything else. Let's talk about food!!

First dish.. Somtam pu-ma, there is nothing related to Puma... not the animal or the sport wear... but it's spicy papaya salad with sea crab. Oh.... they made it really goooooooood!

Second dish... Somtam Thai, right! we ordered 2 kinds of somtam because we wanted to try the ordinary one which is this one, Thai style somtam and the one with crab (above). It turned out really good...both of them! Ahhh..... ooooohh..... mmmmm

Third dish... Tom saab kra-dook moo, it's spicy soup with cartilage bone (pork). It sounds weird, I don't eat the cartilage...only meat please! But for those who love the cartilage, I recommend this dish, they made really good soup..very spicy too! *sweating*

Fourth dish... Larb gai, spicy chicken salad with roasted rice (crushed). You may wonder now that every dish is spicy... these people are crazy! I can say...YES! We're crazy, we love spicy food!!! and you can see why? Don't they look so good? Delicious?

Last dish... Pla muek tod kra-tiem, deep fried squid with garlic. We loved it! The only reason we loved this dish because the golden chopped garlic.... treasure... Ahhhh... (you don't wanna be close to me when I said Ahhhh.. after having this dish!) Crispy, chewy, a little salty.... yummy!

Cha-am&Hua hin trip (Day 1)

Last long weekend, we went on a road trip with P Toy, P Hui to Cha-am and Huahin. On the first day we planned to stay in one resort on the beach in Petchaburi but as we didn't book the room in advance and all of them were full!!!! Can you believe that? We drove from first beach...all resorts were fully booked, the second beach (about 15 km. from the first one) was also fully booked!!! and we kept searching, looking for any available room... but had no luck!

We ended up on Cha-am beach which was too crowded and that's NOT what we wanted, but we had no choice. We found 2 rooms at a guest house in front of the busiest area of Cha-am beach, the price was a little too expensive but it's long holiday and we didn't book it....and most important we were too tired to search for better. We decided to stay there but the rooms were not available until 9 pm. that night, so we had to hang out on the beach for the whole afternoon. We've got the rooms around 8.30 pm after having such a good and (expensive) seafood dinner!.

I had a bad headache all afternoon and evening, so after I took a shower, I went straight to bed and fell asleep right away....

Mama got her purse snatched!!!!!

This morning while I was still in bed..around 6 o'clock in the morning... Mama came to my room, knocking on the dooring and said "Jane! Help me! my purse was snatched!"

I was awake at that time actually as I just sent farewell to Jeremy who wakes up at 5.30 for work everyday. My first thought was 'I've heard of this story before! Jeremy's friend warned us about this last week saying that her friend who lives in our neighborhood got her bag snatched when she walked out on the street early in the morning! But I wasn't really worried as I never got up before 8 am!!! This wouldn't happen to me I thought-- I forgot, I should warn Mama.......'

She came into my room, gave me the telephone number of nearest police station she got from the motorbike taxi friend, and asked me to call this number for her. She was in shocked... all she had in hand was this little piece of paper and the handle of her purse (without the purse of course).

I called the police and they asked me several questions that I couldn't answer, so I let them talk to Mama.... I walked back to my room.... turned on the light... sat down on my bed... couldn't think of anything.

After awhile Mama came in and gave me my phone back, she said "Police will come to our house... I will wait for them downstairs." and she left.

I lied down on my bed... still couldn't think... I heard our dog barking...that means the police had arrived. I decided to go back to sleep...

Oh! I forgot to ask her one important thing!!!

I ran down to Mama...calling her.... when I found her I asked "Did you lose your ATM card?" she said "No, I didn't bring it. I had about 300 baht in my purse."
"What about mobile phone? where is it?" I asked again
"Mobile phone is here, at home... I didn't bring it either." she replied.

Ok then... there is nothing I have to do, now it's the police to find this snatching gang. I've heard that this is 3rd case that happened in my neighborhood... and the police assumed that they are the same group!

I'm glad Mama didn't get hurt... so please... Beware!

Floating Market and Crocodile farm

Last Saturday we went to Floating market at Damneunsaduak, Ratchaburi about 120 km from Bangkok. There were 8 of us, 4 from Myanmar (Emily and her family), and 4 from my family (Mama, my brother, Jeremy and me).
Waking up 6 am... getting ready, the van picking us up at 6.30 am...going to Baiyok Suite hotel to pick up Emily's family and friend... 7.30 am we're heading to floating market!

Arriving there around 9 am... the weather was so nice.. cool.. we took the little tour (1000 baht for 4 people in one boat) along the canals for about 2 hours... then we were off to Sampran Crocodile farm& zoo in Nakorn pathom province. For the ticket... Thai 80 baht, Foreigner 500 baht!!! (Foreigner gets better seat for the show though)

We saw 3 shows: Magician show, Elephants show and Crocodiles show... it was very fun... we really had good time there... I have some videos from this trip which you can see in Jeremy's blog. I have only photos here... (too lazy to upload)

After that we stopped at Don wai market..for a little shopping on the way back to Bangkok. So many food there... hmm... love it!

Coming back to Bangkok...when the sun starting to set... it's another good day we had. Now we're planning for next trip not far from Bangkok, one day trip or weekend trip.. :-)
I can't stop traveling!!! More travel more fun!!! (and more photos)

Manila Vanilla!

Hello! I'm here in Manila!!! Yahoooo.... I leanred one word today "Mabuhay" means Welcome! I saw it on top of Immigration counters... I was wondering what it mean. Was I waiting on the correct line? Because there are other lines saying "OFW -- Oversea Filipino Workers" and "Diplomat" and "Airline Crew only", the rest are "Mabuhay"!!!
It turned out I was on the fine line... but the queue was long... it took me almost 2 hours for all processes including the trip to Greenpeace office!
Ahh... now you wonder why it's Manila Vanilla right? hehehe.. it's the very delicious Vanilla moouse cake that Thai Airways served on the plane... hmmm... I planned to just take a little bite of it but I couldn't resist its wonderful taste... I finished it all... slowly though! It was the best cake I ever had on the flight!
I'm so happy... Starting my trip with good cake..what else should I expect?

First day at Greenpeace

I arrived the office 5 minutes before 9.00 am. A staff brought me to a table which is supposed to be my desk but it's still full of other's belongings...

I looked around, there is nobody in this office(except the reception who brought me in). I didn't know what to do.. I checked my mobile phone, there was one SMS from Jeremy... sent to me at 8.08 am, telling me to get my ass up (he said something more polite than this) and then I replied him that I'm already in office but nothing to do.

Sitting and looking around for a little while, as I saw a PC on my desk I thought I could use this (as it's on *soon to be* my desk) , I looked for the LAN cable.... found it! Turned on the power... signed in as guest... Ahh--Ha!

I checked emails... no new mail except for junk mails...

Hmm... I have nothing to write now... I better finish this post... more staffs arriving the office... I 'm better off now!

My brother wants to buy a car, so we all went there to see the cars to find out which model we really like. 80 baht we paid for the ticket...not bad as you can see many nice cars... all pretty and they really made me drooling... Hello!!!
I'm here at Greenpeace office in Thailand...what am I doing here? Well... I will start working with them soon! Today I came here to talk and be instructed of what I must do... but now I am waiting for Arthur, my supervisor, as he is in the meeting... and he allowed me to use his computer and allowed me to browse!

I was kidnapped!!

Well... first I have to say sorry to you all for not posting anything for more than 10 days!! but the reason is.... I was kidnapped!
I'd been trying so hard to escape... but I wasn't succeed until now... Oi... it was really tough situation for me... I'd been kept in bed most of the time... couldn't do anything else except sleeping! and when it's the time... I'd got some food, just to keep me alive. Mmmm... you don't want to imagine what I've been through...

Anyway, now I'm back... how did I escape? Well... I heard one voice... telling me to get up and run! It's my mom's voice... actually I hear that every morning... but this morning, she really told me to get up and CLEAN my room! and.. blah blah blah blah...and blah blah... so I had to get up... yeah... just to stop those blah blah blah...

Actually I've not posted my Italian trip... and there were Phuket/Phang-nga and Nongkhai and Myanmar and Vietnam... maybe it's time for me to finish them! Cuz my new journey will begin soon!

Now I'm really enjoying my free time... no work (no getting up early)... but no money (Oi.. that's bad!) I plan to just stay home and play games!!! Yeah!!!

Off..to clean my room! (I hear that voice again!!!)

Hello!

I'm at the airport again... as you can guess that I won't be up this early if I don't have to go somewhere!!!

I'm going to Hanoi, Vietnam... to cover APEC 2006.... and this is my last coverage!!! I will come back next week and will become an unemployed.

I just handed the resignation letter to my boss yesterday and will effective on November 25, I will be unemployed after that...
I still don't have any idea of what I will do.... maybe focusing on scholarship hunting... going back to school might be a good option...
What I really need now is to rest... Take a break from everything...

......... I will not take a break from blogging though .......... Don't worry! I will only have less stories to tell as I have nothing to do but I will try to blog about my boring days at home if you want to know!

Ahhh.... This will be my first time being unemployed... my real break after I finished my school... It's much better that this time there is no homework or exam! Oh... but I will have no money too!!! Well.... I will worry about my income later... I only want to think about me doing nothing for awhile...........

It's the first day I arrived Yangon... I had some free time to walk around the streets near hotel. Yangon is another lively city... full of people and lot of activities during the daytime. And what I love about Yangon is... they have many street vendors, just like Thailand!!!

Here I am at new Bangkok International airport (Suvarnabhumi). This is not my first time here but it's my first time to fly from this new airport. I'm going to Yangon in about 2 hours, I'm using internet in Thai Airways Royal Silk Lounge... Now they can open only one lounge but they told me they will have more at the gates.

The new airport looks cool at dawn..and with people, real passengers! I've heard a lot complaining about new airport, but I don't have one from myself(yet). It seems to be okay to me.

I'm so sleepy, I woke up at 4 am today... I need to take a nap. No photo for new airport..I'm too lazy, maybe one photo when I'm at the gate!

Twisted, as expected

Last night I did something stupid to myself, I hurt myself badly! As you know I have problem with my knee lately... and I got injection on it last week. I don't know why, maybe I think this is not enough for me, I need it double! More pain! Yes! More!

I was trying to close the door to backyard, it was stuck. I tried to pull it back in and then I twisted my knee. Yes, the same troubled knee, my left knee. I screamed out loud... SHIT! and Oi!... It's really hurt...I can hardly walk like normal now. So it's confirmed that I have to back to see my doctor again this Tuesday and to tell him "It's not better, it's worse!"

Today we've got new Prime Minister, Gen. Surayud Chulanond as expected. There was rumour since the day of coup d'etat that he will be the interim Prime Minister for Thailand. So it's not so surprise when I heard he's been appointed to be new PM. I went to Government house today as we covered this news, and I have some photos for you!

Coup! and Measles!

Yeah! As you have known about situation in Thailand since the night of 19th September... and I had been so busy since then.
I don't know what to tell about the coup... This is my first experince, as the one 15 years ago, I was still in highschool in the south, I watched the situation in television and couldn't do anything. But this time... I got some information before it actually happened... and it was like chaos!
Now I'm on my sick leave... staying home, resting. There was another thing happened on the same day as the coup...it's the measles! I didn't know I've got it until today!! I went to hospital this morning (it's the only day that I'm not too busy at work and finally having some free time to go see my doctor as I missed one appointment for my knee last week). First doctor I met today was my Orthopedic doctor, after examined my knee, he said "This is not good, you need an injection." I was thinking [NO!! Hell NO!!! No injection!!] he coninued "It's been more than 2 weeks and taking more medicine won't help, today I will give you an injection and will see if you feel better, next week you don't have to come to see me, it's wasting your taxi fee."
Then he started writing something on my filesheet and told his nurse to prepare for injection and then said to me "Get on the bed"..... "Knee".... "Don't look!" (Well... he didn't have to say that, I had no plan to look at it anyway!)

You know what? It was hurt!!! So much!!! Having injection into my knee.... oh.... what an experience!!

After that.... I had appointment to see my Dermathology doctor... I have had this annoying rash since the day after the coup and I thought I got allergic to something and today I will find out. When I met my doctor, showing him the rash and he did some more exam on my throat area..he told me "You have a kind of measles" I thought [MEASLES!!! What??] he said "It's not a serious disease, and it will go away after 10 days, no need to worry. It's just a kind of virus. And you need to get some rest, this will heal your measles."

Well... at least now I know what happened to me... and as the doctor said it's not serious, no need to worry... so I called in for sick leave and rested at home. I woke up one hour before... it was good sleep. I hope I get well soon.
